Six years after the Volkswagen Dieselgate emissions scandal broke, Euroconsumers continues to fight for fair compensation for affected consumers across Europe. The report outlines the origins of the Dieselgate scandal, in which Volkswagen installed defeat device software on millions of cars to cheat emissions tests, misleading consumers and violating environmental and consumer protection laws.
The document describes the widespread harm caused by the emissions fraud, including reduced vehicle resale value, damaged trust, and ongoing technical issues following software fixes.
Euroconsumers was among the first consumer advocacy groups to launch collective actions against Volkswagen on behalf of consumers in Belgium, Spain, Italy, and Portugal, pushing for justice and compensation while highlighting broader issues of accountability across the EU.
