Xandra Kramer is Professor of Private Law at the Erasmus University Rotterdam (profile) and Professor of Private International Law at Utrecht University, the Netherlands. She has also served as a Deputy Judge at the District Court of Rotterdam (2008-2024). Her research focuses on access to justice and justice innovation, the functioning of civil justice systems, cross-border litigation, ADR and ODR, e-justice, collective actions and costs and funding of litigation. She has obtained numerous research grants, including and ERC consolidator grant for an access to justice project, see www.euciviljustice.eu. She has been a project leader and has participated in numerous studies for the Dutch Ministry of Security and Justice, the European Commission and the European Parliament. She is an elected member of the Dutch Royal Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW), the Institut de Droit International (IDI) and currently serves on the Council of the European Law Institute (ELI). In 2025, she established the European Civil Justice Centre.
